Several Wilkes County residents had podium finishes in a pickleball tournament held Oct. 9 at Cub Creek Park in Wilkesboro.

In women’s doubles for ages 19-29, Rebekah Pardue of Millers Creek and Donna Greene of North Wilkesboro took second. Laken Harrold and Bri Pierce of North Wilkesboro finished third.

Mindy Richardson of North Wilkesboro and Amy Purser of Wilkesboro took top honors in women’s doubles 30-49. Runner-up went to Amy Blair and Tiffany Young, both of Wilkesboro. Third place was secured by Carli Sargent of Moravian Falls and Linda Absher of North Wilkesboro.

In women’s doubles 50-59, gold went to Ling Wu Minton of Wilkesboro and partner Bess Sprinkle. Minton also teamed with Bill McLean of Wilkesboro to win mixed doubles 40-59.

Beckie Mathis and Cathy Scarpa, both of North Wilkesboro, finished first in women’s doubles 60-69. Doris Stroud and Vicki Barker of Wilkesboro took second, while Lena Lovette of North Wilkesboro and Sharon Oxford of Purlear placed third.

Joel and Vaughn Ticknor of North Wilkesboro won men’s doubles 19-29. Second place went to Nathan and Zack Jolly of Roaring River, while third was secured by Nathaniel Moorefield of Purlear and Phillip Greene of North Wilkesboro.

In men’s doubles 60-70+, Bill McLain of Wilkesboro teamed with Scott Richardson to take first. Bob Martin of Wilkesboro and Steve Royall of Millers Creek finished third.

Joel Ticknor and Savannah Ticknor, both of North Wilkesboro, won mixed doubles 19-39. Silver went to Vaughn and Molly Ticknor of North Wilkesboro. Mindy Richardson of North Wilkesboro and Ian Bumgarner took third.

The inaugural tourney at Cub Creek was directed by Mathis and refereed by Laura Patterson.
