Winner times three

Wilkes Central’s Carlos Reyes-Martin, here running earlier in the season, won the high jump and 200 meters and ran a leg on the winning 4x100 relay Thursday in Millers Creek.

The West Wilkes boys finished first and the Blackhawk girls took second in a quad-team meet Thursday in Millers Creek.

The West boys compiled 107 points and easily outdistanced Wilkes Central’s 66. Ashe County was third with 55 and North Wilkes had 38 points in the Mountain Valley 1A/2A Athletic Conference meet.

The Blackhawk girls (73.5) finished runner-up to Ashe County (93). They were followed in the team standings by North Wilkes (37.5) and Wilkes Central (28).

Central’s Carlos Reyes-Martin won the high jump (5-8), 200-meter dash (23.6) and anchored the Eagles’ winning 4x100 relay (44.4, joined by Terry Hayes, A.J. Villapando and Anthony Graham).

Terry Hayes of the Eagles also was victorious in the 100-meter dash (11.1) and long jump (18-11).

West’s Austin Triplette took first in the 1,600-meter (4:32.2) and 3,200-meter (10:22.5) runs.

Other Wilkes boy winners were West’s Samuel Lewczyk (pole vault, 8-0), West’s Sage Miller (triple jump, 35-0), North’s Calvin Transeau (shot put, 41-3), West’s William Gregory (discus, 122-3), West’s Ben Crawford (110 hurdles, 19.9), West’s Wesley Furr (800 meters, 2:19), West’s Hunter Wayne (400 meters, 53.3) and the West 4x400 relay (Wayne, Derik Kinkopf, Dawson Osborne and Jakadon Larrimore, 3:48.7).

Among the girls, West’s Kennedy Collins (100 meters, 13.2, and triple jump, 33-8) and North’s Brooke Settle (1,600 meters, 6:03.6, and 800 meters, 2:44.3) won multiple events.

Other first-place finishers were North’s Shelby Roal (shot put, 31-11) and West’s Ju’Mizhia Sanders (100-meter hurdles, 17.5).
