North Wilkes stayed perfect this fall after dispatching North Iredell 28-6 Friday night in nonconference action in Olin.

The Vikings improved to 3-0, passing their first road test of 2019 with relative ease.

A gutsy fourth down call late in the first quarter first put points on the board for the Vikings, as quarterback Cole Chipman hit Kaleb Buck on the slant for a 15-yard score on fourth-and-goal.

North Iredell pulled to 7-6 after a huge 71-yard touchdown pass from Joe Gaither to Brodie Anderson on the first play of the second quarter. But the Raiders were unable to tie as the subsequent point-after attempt was blocked.

The Vikings’ defense made sure the Raiders didn’t sniff the end zone again. Ben Winters gave North Wilkes breathing room with an 8-yard scamper later in the second quarter, and two more touchdowns - both from running back Dylan Church after the intermission - put the contest away for good.

North Iredell dropped to 0-3. Friday was the second loss of the season to a Wilkes County team for the 3A Raiders, who fell to Wilkes Central 15-12 in the season-opener.
