Alleghany followed up last week’s big win over Starmount with a 31-13 victory against West Wilkes on a Friday night homecoming game in Millers Creek.
The Trojans, who improved to 2-1 in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference and 3-4 overall, built a 24-6 halftime lead behind multiple scores from quarterback Jared Foley.
The senior signal caller rushed for a pair of touchdowns (3 and 50 yards) and found Dustin Rector for 34-yard touchdown pass with less than 30 seconds to play in the first half.
Foley also hit four extra points and connected on a 33-yard field goal.
Alleghany extended its lead to 31-6 in the third quarter on a 1-yard touchdown run from Spencer Murphy.
But the Blackhawks (1-6, 0-3) continued to fight back. After Garrett Shumate recovered a Rector fumble early in the fourth quarter, West scored on a 1-yard run from Dallas Rash (his second score of the game) and extra point from Trenton Mastin. Rash also scored in the second quarter.
Mastin recovered the ball on the ensuing onside kick and a chance to possibly make it a two-possession game with just over four minutes to play.
Unfortunately, the Blackhawks turned the ball over on downs.
The Trojans will look to make it three straight when they travel to East Wilkes while West Wilkes hosts Starmount.
