All tripped up

North Wilkes' Axley Palma and Millennium Charter's Zack Wardel get tripped up while chasing after the ball in the second half of Thursday evening's match in Hays.

Senior D.J. Stanley scored twice in the first half to lead a balanced North Wilkes attack as the Vikings defeated Millennium Charter Academy 7-1 Thursday afternoon in non-conference action at Raner Wiles Stadium in Hays.

The Vikings improved to 3-1, and have won three in a row this campaign after dropping the season-opener to Avery County.

Alex Ruvalcaba and Ivan Duran added two more goals apiece and Yeferson Bonilla, in his first action of the fall for the Vikings, added one of his own. Felipe Morales chipped in three assists.

Stanley, Bonilla and Duran staked the Vikings to a 3-0 lead before the Lions got on the board. Seth Haithcock did the honors for Millennium at the 12th minute, momentarily giving his squad life.

But goals by Stanley and Ruvalcaba before the intermission squashed any comeback hope, and Braydon McGlamery (first half) and Samuel Garcia (second half) combined to help keep the Lions at bay with solid play at the keeper position.

Millennium Charter fell to 0-4 with the loss.
