Keaton Hincher

KEATON HINCHER, seen here in 2019, was the MVAC Athlete of the Year in indoor track this past winter.

Editor’s note: Due to the COVID-19 concerns canceling the remainder of the high school sports spring seasons, the Wilkes Journal-Patriot reached out to coaches and athletic directors to have their senior spring sports athletes to fill out this form. We’ll be recognizing spring sports seniors throughout the summer.

Name: Keaton Hincher

School: North Wilkes High School

Sports Played: Cross Country, Indoor Track and Outdoor Track, Basketball and Soccer (Freshman year)

Future plans: Attend Milligan University to run cross country and track while pursuing a bachelor’s degree in nursing.

Greatest high school accomplishment:  Becoming a leader. Once I was viewed as someone who could be trusted to help others, I thought that I was doing something meaningful. My goal is to help others, and being a leader allowed me to do that, and help impact others lives.

Favorite moment playing high school sports, and why: Making it to my first indoor track state meet and actually having a good race. It was my junior year, which is the most important for academics and athletics — I ran a personal record and everything looked promising. I went on to have a solid outdoor track season and almost qualified for the outdoor state meet.

What advice would you give to future athletes coming up in high school sports: Focus, work hard and have fun. To accomplish your goals you have to be focused, work hard and be determined. At the same time, remember to let loose and have fun, because all work, and no play is not worth it, if you don’t remember what your goals are.
