In what could possibly be his last game for the North Wilkes Vikings, senior Alex Ruvalcaba had a game to remember as he scored four goals en route to the Vikings 6-0 rout of West Wilkes on Saturday afternoon at Raner Wiles Stadium in Hays.
In a game that was rescheduled due to the heavy rains on Wednesday, the Blackhawks looked in control in the first 10 minutes of the match, nearly scoring just four minutes into the match.
But the Vikings quickly bounced back from a sluggish start when Ruvalcaba scored in the 19th minute. He would go on to score once more in the first half to give the Vikings a 2-0 lead at halftime.
Ruvalcaba scored twice more in the second half along with goals from Samuel Panneton and Felipe Morales to lead the Vikings in victory.
Both squads finished the regular season with their best records in recent years. North Wilkes finished the season 7-7 in Mountain Valley Athletic Conference play and 13-8-1 overall. West finished with an identical 7-7 record in conference and a 12-8 record overall.
In addition to Saturday’s match, the Vikings upset second-place Ashe County 4-3 on Friday afternoon in Hays.
Ivan Duran scored twice for North Wilkes, which scored three second-half goals after being tied 1-1 at halftime. Ruvalcaba and Panneton also scored.
