A positive case of COVID-19 has led the North Wilkes High School volleyball team to postpone its next four matches over two weeks, the school announced on Dec. 9.

North Wilkes Athletic Director Logan Call said on Dec. 9, “We had a (positive COVID-19) case within the athletic program and wanted to make sure we were proactive to hopefully prevent continuing issues” by postponing the four games.

The affected matches began with the Dec. 8 home game against West Wilkes. The Dec. 10 home game against East Wilkes was also postponed, and to fill the now-open slot, East moved up its Dec. 28 home game against Alleghany to Dec. 10.

North’s home match against Wilkes Central on Tuesday, Dec. 15, has been postponed, as has its Dec. 18 game at Ashe County.

Those postponed games have been tentatively rescheduled but not finalized as of Dec. 9, according to Call.

The Wilkes Central volleyball team had to postpone three games earlier this month because a positive COVID-19 case that was contact traced to a person affiliated with the team.
