North Wilkes dominated from the outset Friday evening at Raner Wiles Stadium in Hays, dispatching West Caldwell 52-14 in non-conference action.
Senior Adam Winebarger scored on a 30-yard pass from quarterback Cole Chipman to start the game, putting North Wilkes on the board after only three plays from scrimmage.
Then, on the subsequent West Caldwell possession, Winebarger picked off the Warriors’ Mark Lopez and scampered 40 yards for six on the interception return.
Lopez, under intense pressure from the front four, desperately lobbed the ball up for grabs near the line of scrimmage and Winebarger did the rest.
Running back Dylan Church also had a big night for the Vikings, who improved to 2-0 for the fall. Church scored three times in the second quarter and once more right after the break, a 40-yard burst that put the game away for good.
West Caldwell (0-2) scored on touchdowns from fullback Cameron Beaver. Beaver, a sophomore, hauled in one score from quarterback Lopez and got the other touchdown on the ground after a seven-yard run.
Caleb Souther and Chipman connected on another Vikings’ touchdown pass to end the first quarter, and kicker Alex Ruvalcaba capped the big scoring night with a 19-yard field goal in the fourth. Ruvalcaba was also perfect on point-after attempts.
