The North Wilkes boys finished second in a Mountain Valley 1A/2A Athletic Conference golf match held Monday at Mountain Aire Golf Course in West Jefferson.

The Vikings finished the nine-hole event in 180 strokes, which trailed first-place Ashe County’s 169 strokes. They were followed in the team standings by Starmount (185), Elkin (190), Wilkes Central (192), East Wilkes (197), West Wilkes (219) and Alleghany (235).

The event medalist was Ashe’s Jake Patton, who shot a 37. Wilkes Central’s Jacob Demeny, Elkin’s James Owings and Starmount’s Jake Roberts were runners-up at 40 strokes.

North’s top finishers were Tanner York (42), Carter Huffman (44), Trent Sidden (46) and Samuel Rhodes (48).

Central’s other top scores were posted by Blake Hayes (44), Brice Smithey (52) and Chanson Roark (56).

East’s top four rounds were shot by Tucker Settle (47), Brady Hall (48), Mason Lyons (49) and R. Sanders (53).

West was led by Andrew Barlowe (49), Tanner Estes (56), Caleb Roten (57) and Landon Gambill (57).

Overall MVAC standings after Monday are Elkin (1,090 strokes), Starmount (1,091), Ashe (1,093), East Wilkes (1,142), North Wilkes (1,165), Wilkes Central (1,188), West Wilkes (1,300) and Alleghany (1,393).

Stone Mountain results

The Vikings finished fourth Thursday at Stone Mountain Golf Resort in Traphill.

Starmount finished first at 176 strokes, followed by Ashe (185), Elkin (189), North (193), East (199), Central (214), West (220) and Alleghany (236).

North’s best scores were posted by Tanner York (42), Samuel Rhodes (46), Carter Huffman (48) and Briley Wyatt (56).

East’s top finishers were Tucker Settle (47), Brady Hall (47), Mason Lyons (50) and C. Mastin (55).

Central was paced by Jacob Demeny (42), Roman O’Sullivan (50), Brice Smithey (60) and Chanson Roark (62).

West was topped by Caleb Roten (50), Landon Gambill (56), Andrew Barlowe (57) and Tanner Estes (57).

The event’s medalist was Starmount’s Hayden Foster, who posted a 39. Teammate Jake Roberts was runner-up with a 41.
