Wilkes County Football Jamboree
The third annual Wilkes County Jamboree will take place on Aug. 16 at 6 p.m. at West Wilkes High School.
This will be the first year that all four Wilkes County teams will take part in the jamboree, which will take place on the turf at Window World Field. The JV teams will play on West Wilkes’ practice field with no referees.
The varsity scrimmages will have referees and the clock and chains will be available. The format for each scrimmage is still to be determined by the two teams.
East Wilkes will kick off the jamboree at 6 p.m. against Avery County (JV’s will play Avery at 5 p.m.) and North Wilkes will face Atkins at 7 p.m. (JV’s will play at 6 p.m.).
Wilkes Central will play Saint Stephens at 8 p.m. (JV’s at 7 p.m.) and the Blackhawks will close out the jamboree against North Iredell at 9 p.m. (JV’s will play at 8 p.m.).
Admission to the scrimmage is $5 and will cover both the varsity and JV games (only state passes will be accepted). Concessions will also be available.
Yellow Jackets football signups
The Wilkes Yellow Jackets still has openings on their youth football teams, primarily on the Kindergarten-through-2nd Grade team
Any Wilkes County students in grades Kindergarten through 6th are eligible to play. This includes public, private, Christian and home schooled.
There is no program fee and all players play for free.
The Yellow Jackets also have openings on the 3rd and 4th and 5th and 6th grade teams.

NWNC Fall Baseball League
The Northwest North Carolina Fall Baseball League, a non-profit organization, is currently looking for players ages 4-to-10 interested in playing ball this fall.
The season will begin in September and run through November with games being played at Memorial Park and River’s Edge.
There will be three age groups, based off how old the player is as of Aug. 31, 2019. The three leagues will be Advanced Step Up Tee-Ball (for players age 4 and 5), Coach Pitch (for players age 6 and 7) and Rookie League (for players age 8-10).
Players in all three divisions will be placed on a team regardless of ability. Deadline to register is Aug. 23. Workouts for Rookie League and Coach Pitch will take place on Aug. 25 at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., respectively. Both workouts will take place at Memorial Park.
