The Wilkes Central Draw Down, which benefits the Eagles athletic department, has been rescheduled for Saturday, Sept. 26. The fundraiser was originally scheduled to take place this past March.

This will be a virtual event, starting at 6 p.m. Tickets are still available for $100 and the winner’s share in $8,000.

Yellow Jackets announce start date

The Wilkes Yellow Jackets football teams are currently holding signups for the 2020 season.

The Wilkes Yellow Jackets will field three teams: kindergaren, 1st and 2nd (full-contact tackle football), 3rd-4th and 5th-6th. Any Wilkes County students in grades kindergarten through 6th are eligible to play. This includes public, private, christian and home schooled athletes.

Practices for all teams is set for Sept. 1 at 6 p.m. at Wilkes VFW Park. The first games are currently scheduled for Sept. 19.

There will be no program fee, all players play for free.

All players must have permission forms and physicals before they allowed to practice. To  sign up, for forms or more information call Commissioner Mark Whittington at (336) 670-3177. Prospective parents can also e-mail him at whittg43@aol.com.

Chris “Doc” Thompson Memorial Golf Tournament

The 2020 Chris “Doc” Thompson Memorial Golf Tournament is set for Saturday, Sept. 19, at Stone Mountain Golf Resort.

The tournament is in honor of honor of Navy Medical Corpsman Christopher Thompson, a 1999 graduate of North Wilkes who was killed in 2005 in Iraq.

Cost to take part is $50 per player with $5 mulligans and $5 skirt (limit one per player).

There will be two different time slots to compete in of 10 slots apiece. The time wave is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. and the other will be at 1:30 p.m.

First place winner will receive $400 and $200 going to the second-place finisher.
