Wilkes Central soccer

Wilkes Central’s boys soccer team was the lone county team to make the North Carolina High School Athletic Association playoffs. Brackets were unveiled on Monday.

The Eagles (10-11) garnered the No. 31 seed for the 2A playoffs. They will travel to No. 2 Hibriten (21-1-2) on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

The winner will face either No. 15 West Caldwell (13-5-2) or No. 18 Lincolnton (12-7) in the second round, which is scheduled for Saturday.

Basketball camp fundraiser

The Wilkes Central boys basketball team will be hosting a basketball camp charity fundraiser on Saturday, Nov. 16. The camp is for 1st through 5th grade boys and will be held at Wilkes Central High School from 9 a.m to noon.

Colby Lakey, a senior basketball player at Wilkes Central, is organizing this event for his graduation project. His goal is to raise money for Wilkes A.D.A.P. (Adult Development Activity Program).

Wilkes A.D.A.P. is a nonprofit organization funded by Wilkes United Way. It provides services and support for adults with developmental disabilities, to help them become full participating members of the community. Cost of the camp is $20 and all proceeds will be donated to Wilkes A.D.A.P.

Applications are available at Wilkes Central and all feeder schools. Campers can also register on Nov. 16th at Wilkes Central, starting at 8:30 a.m.
