East Wilkes junior Tristen Blevins was a winner at #2 singles and teamed with Sylvia Prevette for a victory at #1 doubles Thursday over Wilkes Central in Ronda.

The East Wilkes tennis team made short work of Wilkes Central in Ronda on Thursday to complete an undefeated season in the Mountain Valley 1A/2A Athletic Conference.

The league-champion Cardinals (14-0) won 9-0 and dropped a total of only eight games in the pro-set matchup.

In singles, top-seeded Sylvia Prevette of East downed Riley Cearly, 8-0; #2 Tristen Blevins d. Isabelle Curry 8-4; #3 Jordan Schubart d. Carol Vasquez 8-1; #4 Brianna Martin d. Caroline Langston 8-0; #5 Kristie Brown d. Meagan Black 8-0; and #6 Kaleigh Couch d. LilyKate Young 8-0.

Doubles action saw #1 Prevette and Blevins defeating Curry and Vasquez, 8-2; #2 Schubart/Couch d. Cearly/Langston 8-1; and #3 Martin/Brown d. Black/Young 8-0.

The Eagles fell to 7-6 with the loss. Individuals from both teams will participate in NCHSAA regional competition on Friday.

West tops North

West Wilkes doubled up North Wilkes, 6-3, in a pro-set match Thursday in Millers Creek.

In singles, top-seeded Lizzie Church of West defeated Rebekah Wilson 8-1; #2 Paige Phillips (WW) d. Allie Billings 8-0; #3 Kendall Stanley (WW) d. Mallie Carson 8-0; #4 Sarah Gambill (NW) d. Kaitlyn Wayne 8-6; #5 Ivy Bledsoe (WW) d. Taylor Wood 8-2; and #6 Abigayle Myers (NW) d. Sydney Church 8-0.

Doubles results were: #1 Phillips/Stanley (WW) d. Wilson/Billings 8-2; #2 L. Church/Wayne (WW) d. Carson/Gambill 8-1; and Wood/Myers (NW) d. Bledsoe/S. Church 8-4.

After its match at Ashe on June 9 was canceled due to rain, the Blackhawks finished with a record of 9-4, good for third in the MVAC. The Vikings concluded with a mark of 2-11.
