four-time, four-time, four-time, four-time selection

EAST WILKES’ LAUREN RAKES, seen here against West Wilkes this spring, was named to her fourth NCSCA 1A all-state team late last week.

Lauren Rakes closed out an impressive prep softball career with one more honor from the North Carolina Softball Coaches Association.

The Lenoir-Rhyne signee was named to the NCSCA 1A all-state team late last week for the fourth time in her playing career. She was named to her fourth all-district team a week earlier.

Rakes swept the MVAC Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year honors this past spring as she led East Wilkes in nearly every offensive category.

Rakes batted .534 with nine home runs and 29 runs batted in — all team highs.

Of her 31 hits, which tied for the team lead, 20 of them went for extra bases, including 10 doubles. She had 58 official at-bats in the season and drew 37 walks — many of which were intentional free passes. She also stole a team-high 15 bases.

With Rakes’ selection, Wilkes County has now had 52 all-state selections since 2011 (and at least one player selected every season since 2007).

Notes: Rakes was one of just 12 seniors named out of the 57 selections. In addition to Rakes, two Trojans were named to the 1A team — Kenzi Lyall and Haley Rife were also selected. North Stokes’ Lora Wood and Autumn Martin were named the West Region’s Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year, respectively, for the Vikings.
