In singles, top-seeded Sylvia Prevette dropped Mattie Wells 6-1, 6-2; #2 Tristen Blevins d. Julie Cortez 6-4, 6-0; #3 Brianna Martin d. Alice Gwyn 6-0, 6-0; #4 Jordan Schubart d. Kendall Eads 6-1, 6-0; #5 Kristie Brown d. Bronwyn Sloop 6-0, 6-0; and #6 Kaleigh Couch d. Chandler Beals 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles, #1 Prevette/Blevins d. Wells/Cortez 8-4; #2 Martin/Schubart d. Gwyn/Eads 8-0; and #3 Brown/Hallie Younger d. Laura Couch/Beals 8-2.

The first-place Cardinals moved to 6-0 while the Buckin’ Elks’ mark evened at 2-2.

Eagles clip Rams

Wilkes Central doubled up Starmount in Boonville on Thursday, 6-3.

In singles, top-seeded Eagle Riley Cearly defeated Caroline Wood 3-6, 6-2, 10-5; #2 Camryn Shore (ST) d. Isabelle Curry 3-6, 6-2, 10-1; #3 Carol Vasquez (WC) d. Anna Serrano 6-1, 6-0; #4 Adan Lakey (ST) d. Caroline Langston 6-2, 6-1; #5 Meagan Black (WC) d. Tania Lorenzo 6-1, 6-1; and #6 LilyKate Young (WC) d. Mairely Maldonado 6-0, 6-0.

Doubles action saw #1 Wood/Shore (ST) d. Cearly/Curry 9-8 (11-9); #2 Vasquez/Langston (WC) d. Serrano/Lakey 8-3; and #3 Black/Young (WC) d. Lorenzo/Maldonado 8-0.

The Eagles bettered to 3-1 while the Rams dropped to 1-5.

Vikes sweep Trojans

North Wilkes took all nine matchups at Alleghany on Thursday.

In singles, North’s top seed, Rebekah Wilson, dropped Mary Beth Burgiss 6-2, 6-1; #2 Allie Billings d. Karlie Keepfer 6-4, 7-5; #3 Mallie Carson d. Macey Whitaker 4-6, 7-5, 10-7; #4 Sarah Gambill d. Kasidy Loggins 6-0, 6-0; #5 Taylor Wood d. Cindy Lopez 6-4, 6-4; and #6 Abigayle Myers d. Alexandra Vestal 6-1, 6-4.

In doubles, #1 Wilson/Billings d. Burgiss/Whitaker 8-0; #2 Carson/Gambill d. Keepfer/Vestal 8-3; and #3 Wood/Myers d. Loggins/Lopez 8-1.

The Vikings improved to 2-3 while the Trojans fell to 0-3.

Eagles rip Trojans

Wilkes Central turned back Alleghany, 8-1, in Moravian Falls on May 11.

Singles play saw Central’s top seed, junior Riley Cearly, win her match 6-0, 6-1; #2 Isabelle Curry (WC) won 6-4, 6-2; #3 Carol Vasquez (WC) won 6-0, 6-1; #4 Alleghany d. Caroline Langston 6-4, 6-4; #5 Meagan Black (WC) won 6-2, 6-1; and #6 LilyKate Young (WC) won 6-0, 6-1.

In doubles, #1 Cearly/Curry (WC) won 8-3; #2 Vasquez/Langston (WC) won 8-1; and #3 Black/Young (WC) won 8-3.

Vasquez was named player of the match for the Eagles, who bettered to 2-1. The Trojans fell to 0-2.

Vikes drop Rams

North Wilkes won its first match of the season, doubling up Starmount, 6-3, in Hays on May 11.

In singles, North’s top seed, senior Rebekah Wilson, defeated Caroline Wood 6-1, 7-6 (8-6) and was named team player of the match. At #2, Camryn Shore (ST) d. The Cardinals moved to 5-0 while the Huskies slipped to 3-1.
