The East Wilkes tennis team rolled over Alleghany, 9-0, in Sparta on Monday.

In singles, top-seeded Tristen Blevins defeated Kasidy Loggins 6-0, 6-0; #2 Hallie Younger d. Karlie Keepfer 6-2, 6-0; #3 Kristie Brown d. Cindy Lopez 6-1, 6-0; #4 Savannah Sparks d. Macey Whitaker 6-2, 6-1; #5 Valerie Schubart d. Evie Jones 6-1, 6-1; and #6 Salem Sparks d. Sayde Klein 6-0, 6-0.

Doubles action saw #1 Blevins/Brown dropping Loggins/Lopez 8-0; #2 Younger/Savannah Sparks d. Keepfer/Whitaker 8-2; and #3 Schubart/Salem Sparks d. Jones/Klein 8-0.

The Cardinals improved to 6-2 overall and 4-1 in the Northwest 1A Conference. The Trojans slipped to 1-5, 1-5.

Forbush edges Central

Forbush narrowly defeated Wilkes Central in Moravian Falls on Monday, 5-4.

Singles play saw Central’s top seed, senior Riley Cearly, defeat Lauren Rockett 6-2, 6-0; #2 Carol Vasquez (WC) d. Caroline Myers 6-2, 6-3; #3 Zayley St. John (F) d. Caroline Langston 6-1, 6-4; #4 Meagan Black (WC) d. Emma Sorrell 6-1, 6-2; #5 Salem Parker (F) d. LilyKate Young 6-2, 6-3; and #6 Katie Starling (F) d. Lacey Jones 6-0, 6-0.

With the match tied 3-3, the Falcons took two of the three doubles matches. At #1, Cearly/Vasquez (WC) d. Rockett/Myers 9-7; #2 St. John/Sorrell (F) d. Langston/Black 8-4; and #3 Parker/Starling (F) d. Young/Kyara Parsons 8-2.

The Falcons upped their record to 2-4 overall and 2-1 in the Foothills 2A Conference. The Eagles dipped to 3-4, 3-3.

Hounds double up Vikes

North Surry took a 6-3 victory over North Wilkes in Hays on Monday.

Viking winners were junior Sarah Gambill at #3 singles (a 6-1, 6-1 win over Molly Reeves), junior Taylor Wood at #4 singles (6-4, 6-2 over Carrigan Willard) and the #2 doubles team of Gambill and junior Beth Settle, who topped Willard and Allyn-Claire Simmons 8-6.

The Greyhounds improved to 3-4 overall and 1-4 in Foothills 2A matches. The Vikings are winless in five matches this season.

Forbush tops North

Forbush captured a 7-2 victory over North Wilkes in Hays on Thursday.

Viking winners were junior Sarah Gambill at #3 singles (6-3, 6-4 over Emma Sorrell) and the #1 doubles team of senior Allie Billings and junior Mallie Carson (8-5 over Caroline Myers and Zayley St. John).

It was the first victory of the season for the Falcons (1-4, 1-2). The Vikings fell to 0-4, 0-4.

Surry downs North

Surry Central posted an 8-1 league win over North Wilkes in Dobson on Sept. 7.

North’s lone winner was junior Sarah Gambill, who took a 6-2, 3-6, 11-9 victory at #3 singles. The only other Viking to win at least three games in a set was senior Allie Billings at #2 singles.

The Golden Eagles bettered to 4-0 overall and in Foothills 2A play. The Vikings slipped to 0-3, 0-3.

Cards blank Vikings

East Wilkes captured all nine matchups against North Stokes in Danbury on Sept. 7.

East’s top singles seed, Tristen Blevins, defeated Chandler Sizemore 6-4, 6-3; #2 Hallie Younger d. Ada Hassan 6-4, 6-3; #3 Kristie Brown d. Emma Hooker 6-0, 6-0; #4 Savannah Sparks d. Rori Long 6-1, 6-1; #5 Valerie Schubart d. Emma Gunn 6-2, 6-0; and #6 Salem Sparks d. Ila Hassan 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles, #1 Blevins/Brown d. Sizemore/Long 8-2; #2 Younger/Savannah Sparks d. A. Hassan/Gunn 8-2; and #3 Schubart/Salem Sparks d. Hooker/I. Hassan 8-2.

The Cardinals improved to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the Northwest 1A. The Vikings slid to 2-2, 2-2.
