Leah Church

Wilkes County native Leah Church, who plays prep basketball for Forest Trail Academy based in Kernersville, was recently named First Team All-Conference in the National Independent School Athletic Association.

Church, who made nearly 100 3-pointers this season, was her team’s leading scorer and was joined on the All-Conference team by teammate Lucky Rudd. Rudd is the daughter of Delaney Rudd, who coaches Forest Trail and played at Wake Forest and then four seasons in the NBA.

Rudd has committed to play at NC State next season while Church, a junior this season, has another year of eligibility left.

The Golden Knights went 24-6 this season and fell in the NISAA championship game to Hamilton Heights Christian Academy 65-63 in overtime.

Church caught national attention last summer as she made 120 3-pointers in five minutes and posted the video to YouTube. That video has been viewed more than 300,000 times and was tweeted about by several major sports news organizations including ESPN.
