The Wilkes Central tennis team closed out the regular season with an 8-1 victory over North Wilkes in Moravian Falls on Monday.

In the top-seeded singles match, Central senior Riley Cearly defeated senior Allie Billings 6-0, 6-1; #2 Carol Vasquez (WC) d. Mallie Carson 6-1, 6-2; #3 Caroline Langston (WC) d. Sarah Gambill 6-3, 6-4; #4 Meagan Black (WC) d. Taylor Wood 2-6, 7-5, 10-8; #5 Beth Settle (NW) d. LilyKate Young 6-4, 7-5; and #6 Breanna Hemric (WC) d. Brook Settle 6-4, 6-2.

The Eagles were victorious in all three doubles matchups, as #1 Cearly/Vasquez dropped Billings/Carson 8-4; #2 Langston/Black d. Gambill/Beth Settle 8-4; and #3 Young/Hemric d. Wood/Gabrielle Royal 8-3.

Central powered up to 6-8 overall and 6-6 in Foothills 2A Conference play, while North fell to 0-10, 0-10.

Forbush takes West

Forbush doubled up West Wilkes in East Bend on Oct. 6, 6-3, in a pro-set match.

Winners for the Blackhawks were top-seeded singles senior Kendall Stanley, who defeated Lauren Rockett 8-1. Sixth-seeded McKenzie Livingston, also a senior, dropped Katie Starling 8-6. Stanley and junior Ivy Bledsoe teamed up at #1 doubles to take down Rockett and Caroline Myers, 8-5. The Falcons moved up to 9-6 overall and 8-3 in the Foothills 2A while the Blackhawks are winless in eight posted matches.

Cards wipe Rams

East Wilkes took all nine pro-set matchups at Starmount on Monday. It was the Northwest 1A Conference finale for both squads.

The Cardinals improved to 13-3 overall and 10-2 in league play, good for second in conference and the league’s second dual team playoff berth. The Rams finished at 6-9, 6-6.

In singles, top-seeded Tristen Blevins defeated Caroline Wood 8-2; #2 Hallie Younger d. Camryn Shore 8-3; #3 Kristie Brown d. Adan Lakey 8-3; #4 Savannah Sparks d. Tania Lorenzo 8-0; #5 Emily Spicer d. Mattie Tavano 8-1; and #6 Valerie Schubart d. Mariana Arroyo 8-1.

Doubles action saw #1 Blevins/Brown dropping Wood/Shore 8-3; #2 Younger/Salem Sparks d. Lakey/Lorenzo 8-4; and #3 Savannah Sparks/Spicer d. Tavano/Arroyo 8-1.

Forbush tops Central

Forbush manufactured a 7-2 win over Wilkes Central in East Bend on Thursday.

The Eagle winners were top-seeded singles player Riley Cearly, a senior who posted a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Lauren Rockett. Another Central senior, LilyKate Young, was a 6-3, 6-0 winner at #5 singles over Katie Starling.

The Falcons improved to 10-6 overall and 9-3 in the Foothills 2A, while the Eagles dove to 5-8, 5-6.

Hounds slap Vikings

North Surry whitewashed North Wilkes, 9-0, in Mount Airy on Oct. 6.

The most competitive pro-set matches for the Vikings occurred at #3 singles (Molly Reeves d. Taylor Wood, 8-4) and #2 doubles (Reeves/Allyn-Claire Simmons d. Beth Settle/Brook Settle 8-4).

The Greyhounds rose to 7-9 overall and 4-8 in the Foothills 2A while the Vikings dropped to 0-9, 0-9.

Forbush flips North

Forbush posted an 8-1 win over North Wilkes in East Bend on Oct. 5. The lone victor for the Vikings was the second-seeded doubles team of juniors Taylor Wood and Beth Settle, an 8-5 decision over Allie Sunderman and Katie Collins.

The Falcons upped their season marks to 8-6 overall and 7-3 in the Foothills 2A. The Vikings are winless in eight matches.

East wipes Central

East Wilkes swept Wilkes Central, 9-0, in a nonleague matchup in Moravian Falls on Oct. 5.

In singles, #1 Tristen Blevins defeated Riley Cearly 6-2, 6-1; #2 Hallie Younger d. Carol Vasquez 6-3, 3-6, 11-9; #3 Kristie Brown d. Caroline Langston 6-0, 6-0; #4 Savannah Sparks d. Meagan Black 6-3, 6-0; #5 Emily Spicer d. LilyKate Young 6-3, 6-2; and #6 Valerie Schubart d. Breanna Hemric 6-4, 7-5.

Doubles action saw #1 Blevins/Brown dropping Cearly/Vasquez 8-5; #2 Younger/Salem Sparks d. Langston/Black 8-0; and #3 Savannah Sparks/Spicer d. Young/Hemric 8-0.

The Cardinals improved to 12-3 with the win while the Eagles fell to 5-7.
