Reading wings of cicadas

'"W' FOR WAR?- Junior Simmons, Wilkes animal control director, took this photo of an adult cicada near his home in the Thurmond community this week. Simmons said an old story is that periodical cicadas have either a "W" for war or a "P" for peace on each of their wings. The "W" on one of this cicada's wings is circled. Of course, there always is war somewhere in the world.
