It’s time for the Wilkes County commissioners to act on constructing a spec building for manufacturing to provide higher paying jobs for our county and assist with keeping younger adults living and working in the county. The spec building could either be constructed with public funds or a combination of private and public funds, as Alexander County did.

Over the years, the Wilkes Economic Development Corp. has stated that larger and higher buildings are needed but the commissioners haven’t done anything. It’s now time and may help ease the loss of 700 higher paying jobs that Lowe’s Companies Inc. is moving out of the county.
