Since cooking is not my favorite thing to do (grilled cheese and tomato soup is my specialty) and to give my wife a break, I patronize the restaurants in Wilkes fairly regularly. Therefore, we’re very grateful that the gallant restaurant owners have remained open, and the brave cooks and servers continue to provide service to us picker-uppers.
However, with only seven to 10 customers picking up meals each day, it won’t be long before the service they are trying to provide will not be possible. Even now, the servers whose primary source of income is tips are suffering financially. If you are like us, we love the servers for what they do to make our dining out a joy.
Therefore, I am suggesting a very simple plan I am calling, “Adopt a Restaurant.” All that is necessary is for you to call a restaurant that you are currently patronizing and commit to a certain number of meals during the week so the manager can plan for staffing and food required. And finally, and most importantly for the staff, tip generously when you pick up your order. Recognize that a regularly standard tip of 15% will probably not make up for all of the lost tips normally received from sit down customers, and the cooks make very little from tips. So, think double your normal tip as a minimum.
And lastly, remember the words of Christ in Matthew 22:21 “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s; and to God the things that are God’s.” So, cover both sides of the coin by telling the server. how you were blessed by our Lord to be able to give him or her the extra tip. Of course, let them know what church you attend. Let our Lord handle the rest. Also, don’t forget that it was the plague that God used to save the Israelites from the Pharaoh.
