Change in the news presented in the Wilkes Journal-Patriot has been a positive. When the newspaper ownership changed, I was concerned it would mean the loss of our local news.

However, that has not happened and news outside the community has made the paper more interesting. It’s good to read articles of general interest too. The Linotype machine article (“Otto’s ‘eighth wonder of the world’’’) in last week’s issue is an example.

I hope the general news continues on the local level. We formerly subscribed to three newspapers, which became overwhelming in their political bent. As newspapers are bought up by single controlling publishers, the news becomes opinionated. Hopefully WJP will not meet this fate.
