Today was pretty, but boy, was it hot. The grass needed mowing on our little spot.
So we loaded up, and headed up to Wilkes. The sun so hot we thought we would melt.
On the way home, we didn’t get far. The truck stopped running, and we had no air.
The traffic was so heavy, oh, what would we do? We needed to get somewhere so we could get cool.
Then two men helped us to push, and soon we were out of the way, near a bush.
A policeman came by, and we don’t know his name. He was so thoughtful, and helpful, the same.
We called a wrecker, and he came right away. He would take us to the Coffee House, and he would be on his way.
We asked if we could just have a seat, for we were hot, and tired clear to our feet.
Then what happened brought tears to my eyes, for I had never had such a special surprise.
A man who was there sent $20 over to us for a snack. And, I had to fight to keep the tears back.
Soon our son was there with our ride, and it was time for us to say good-bye.
So thank you folks, whoever you are, you made an awful day better, by far.
We’ll do the same whenever we see another needing help like my husband and me.
