William Howard Owens Jr., better known as “JR,” age 73, of Wilkesboro passed away Friday, Oct. 8, 2021, at his home.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2021, at Scenic Memorial Gardens with Rev. Derick Hodges officiating.
Mr. Owens was born June 17, 1948, in Wilkes County to William Howard Owens Sr. and Eula Elizabeth Crysel Owens. He was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for several years.
He was retired from the N.C. Highway Patrol, Wilkes County Sheriff’s Department and he proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps with a tour of duty in Vietnam. JR was also a talented wood worker.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Leigh Ann Owens; a sister, Mozelle Beshears; and three brothers, Hubert Owens, C.P. Owens and Roger Owens.
He is survived by his former wife and best friend, Carol Jones Owens, of Wilkesboro; a sister, Geraldine Miller, and husband, Lloyd, of Millers Creek; and several nieces and nephews.

The family requests that everyone attending the service wear a face covering.
