Wilena Christine Folken, 87, of Wilkesboro, passed away Friday, April 30, 2021, at Forsyth Medical Center. Mrs. Folken was born Jan. 14, 1934, in Pawnee City, Neb., to Ray Robert and Christine Wilhelmina Lauts Turnbull. Wilena was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Atonement. She was the Sunflower Queen Bowling Champion in 1978 and retired as a registered nurse. Mrs. Folken was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Lavon Turnbull.
Surviving is her husband, Raymond E. Folken of the home; her children, Douglas R. Folken (Monica) of Tampa, Fla.,, Kimberly A. Folken of Southern Pines, Julia C. Baird (Shane Hague) of Millers Creek; grandchildren, Zachary A. Folken (Jessica) of Lawrence, Kan., Nikolas Q. Folken of Kansas City, Mo., Jordan H. Folken (Brittany) of Kansas City, Mo., Ethan Folken of Greensboro, William “Dalton” Baird of Wilkesboro, Kaitlin C. Walsh (Ryan) of North Wilkesboro, Victoria F. Brown (Blake) of Millers Creek, Rebecca P. Shumate (Jared) of North Wilkesboro, great-grandchildren, Annebelle, Oscar, Iris, Avery, Elowyn, Bailey, Everett and Oliver; siblings, Belva Hullender (Jim) of Ocean Springs, Mo., Irvin Turnbull (Carol Jean) of Knoxville, Tenn.
Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, May 6, 2021, at the Lutheran Church of the Atonement with Rev. Carl Elledge officiating. Burial will follow in Scenic Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Folken will lie in state from 10:30-11 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lutheran Church of the Atonement, 243 Oakwoods Road, Wilkesboro, N.C., 28697.
