Walter Roscoe Blevins, 80, of North Wilkesboro, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2020, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. He was born Sept. 24, 1940, in Wilkes County to Francis and Ila Shumate Blevins.
Walter was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church on Luray Road. Mr. Blevins was part of the Apollo East Coast Recovery Team and a former member of the Moose Lodge. He also was a U.S. Navy veteran, member of the N.C. National Guard and a USDA inspector. Fishing was Walter’s favorite past time. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Phyllis Barlow Blevins; daughter, Jody Lynn Blevins; brothers, Mack Blevins and Gurney Blevins; and sister, Evelyn Farrington.
Mr. Blevins is survived by his son, Darrell Blevins and spouse, Angel, of North Wilkesboro; granddaughters, Jodi Anderson and spouse, Matthew, of Jonesville and Hope Blevins of North Wilkesboro; great-grandchildren, Luke Anderson, Ayden Anderson, Trinity Jarman, Rayne Jarman, Gabby Jarman and Emma Blevins; and sister, Bernice Ashlin of North Wilkesboro.
Graveside service will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, 2020, at Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Kent Wood and Pastor Mark Barlow officiating. The family will receive friends at Miller Funeral Service from noon to 1 p.m. on Saturday, prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted. Miller Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.
