Steven Russell Elledge, 66, of Hays peacefully passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2020, at Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born in Wilkes County to Dean Clyde and Pearl Bailey Elledge.
Steven attended Mountain View Elementary and graduated from North Wilkes High School in 1972. He was a member of Peace Haven Baptist Church, where he felt it was his calling to let the widows know they were not forgotten. Steven was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, son and brother. In general, he loved people and could bring a smile to anyone's face. He loved his grandchildren and was very proud of them.
He enjoyed bluegrass music, singing, playing golf, sitting on the front porch and driving his MINI Cooper. Over the years, he was a truck driver, worked in vending services and owned multiple businesses, such as Astro Jump and the Corner Stop Convenience Store.
Steven was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Ruby Adams.
Surviving are his wife, Kim Huffman Elledge; his sons, Reggie Elledge of North Wilkesboro, Barry Elledge of Hays and Jonathan McClary (Jennifer) of Jacksonville; his mother, Pearl Bailey Elledge of Hays; his brothers, Ralph Elledge (Betty), Bruce Elledge (Heather), all of North Wilkesboro, and Neal Elledge of Hays; his sisters, Sandra Shumate (Roy) of Hays, Barbara Massengill (Tony) of Traphill and Rita Brown (Paul) of Dehart; and his grandchildren, Harrison, Hayden, Madison and Eli.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2020, at Peace Haven Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jimmy Church, Pastor Tim Pruitt Sr., and Dr. Charles Cain officiating. Entombment will follow in Mountlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. Viewing will be at Peace Haven Baptist Church from 11 a.m. until noon Saturday, prior to the service.
