Shelby Reid Coppola passed away peacefully on April 8, 2021, at her home in Callahan, Fla., after being diagnosed with cancer earlier this year. She was 81 and surrounded by loved ones and flowers at the time of her death.
Born and raised in Iredell County, “Shelby Jean” was the youngest daughter of Pearl Beshears Reid Miller and Marshall Reid. A Love Valley princess with an adventurous soul, she left for a position with the federal government in Washington, D.C., after graduating from Central High School in 1957.
It was there she met and married the love of her life, Edward Coppola. They eventually settled in Florida and shared a home and many travels for 60 years until Edward’s death in July 2020.
Shelby is survived by her daughter Michele Coppola, her son Marco Coppola, her elder brother Marshall Reid, her daughter-in-love Christy Coppola and three devoted grandchildren. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, in-laws, and close friends who will forever miss her lively laugh, unshakable faith, listening ear, and snazzy outfits.
A memorial service and interment of ashes will be held on Saturday, May 1, 2021, at 11 a.m. at Taylor Springs Baptist Church, 443 Taylor Springs Road, Union Grove. All family and friends who wish to help us celebrate this beautiful soul are welcome to attend.
