Roy Lee Mitchell, 83, of Millers Creek, passed away Saturday, Nov. 6, 2021, at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem.
He was born in Wilkes County on June 6, 1938, the son of Earl Lincoln Mitchell and Ethel Catherine Inscore Mitchell.
Employment for Mr. Mitchell included Carolina Mirror, Foster-Sturdivant Construction Company, Clyde Brown’s Service Station, Wilkes Paint and Glass, Lowe’s Companies and Burns Security.
He was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church, attended church regularly as long as health permitted, loved horses, antique cars, especially Fords and old time and bluegrass music.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother; Earl Gwyn Mitchell. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Audrey Shepherd Mitchell of the home; a son, C.L. Mitchell of Millers Creek; two sisters, Zell (Alvin) Crowder of Greensboro and Jean Robinson of Hays; one brother, Jerry (Carol) Mitchell of Hays; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2021, from 12:15-1:45 p.m. at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral home, followed by the funeral at 2 p.m. at Reins-Sturdivant Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Benny Romans and the Rev. Steve Faw, with singing provided by the Rev. William Souther. Burial will follow in Old Reddies River Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Millers Creek.
The family wishes to express appreciation to everyone, especially the Shoemaker, Royal and Roberts families for their love, support and assistance during this time.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.
