Robert Donald “Don” Kerley

Robert Donald “Don” Kerley, 63, of Wilkesboro, passed away Thursday, Nov. 12, 2020 at his home. Mr. Kerley was born March 3, 1957 in Wilkes County to Robert Eugene and Bettie Triplett Kerley. Don was a graduate of Wilkes Central High School, class of 1976. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1979 until 1982, becoming a crew chief of the F4e Phantom. Don likely took the greatest pride in being a veteran and loved his service to our country. He loved fishing and cars and taking pride in his Corvettes. Don loved his friends and family, though he never had children of his own, he was always interested in the affairs of his beloved nieces, nephews and their children. Mr. Kerley was preceded in death by his parents.

Robert is survived by his sister, Carol Hayes and spouse, Dr. William “Bill” Hayes, of Gastonia, her daughter, Anna Kucera, and spouse, Craig, of Gastonia, and son, Bill Hayes III, and spouse, Kimberly, of Gastonia; his sister, Bobbie Mace and spouse, Bill, of Hayesville, her sons, Paul Mason and spouse, Paula, of Inman, S.C., Adam Mace and spouse, Michelle, of Cumming, Ga.; his sister, Anna Kerley Holland and spouse, Eddie, of Wilkesboro, her daughter, Beth Vannoy and spouse, Jay, of Wilkesboro; and several great nieces and nephews.

Memorial service with military honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guard Post 1142 will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 30, 2020, at Mountlawn Memorial Park.
