Rita Charlotte Crump Atwood, 71, of Tuthill Drive, Lenoir, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2019, at her residence. She was born Jan. 30, 1948, in Caldwell County to the late Thomas Conard and Margaret Roland Crump.
Mrs. Atwood worked in civil service with the U.S. government and was co-owner of Atwood Security Systems before retirement. She was a member of Fairview Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her husband, Homer Dale Atwood of the home; one daughter, Angela Atwood Brittain of Lenoir; one brother, Thomas Crump and wife, Marilyn, of Lenoir; two sisters, Georgia Sue Crump and Nancy Crump, both of Lenoir; two granddaughters who were the joy of her life, Natalie Brielle Brittain and Lauren Adelle Brittain, both of Lenoir; three sisters-in-law, Brandy Schmitt and husband, Nelson, of Conover, Maxine Foster of Wilkesboro and Audrey Pierce and husband, Robert, of Boomer; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 7, 2019, at 2 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Edyth Pruitt. Interment will immediately follow the service at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens of Lenoir.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m., prior to the service at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Tommy Crump, Rylan Crump, Nelson Schmitt, Jarred Daniels, Bill Sullivan and Donnie Morrison.
The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to the staff of Guardian Home Health, who provided heartfelt care beyond measure and fostered Mrs. Atwood’s tremendous strength and determination she exhibited while she was ill.
