Presley “Jack” Burgess, 90, of North Wilkesboro passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2020, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
Private family graveside services will be held Saturday, May 23, 2020, at 1 p.m. at Mountlawn Memorial Park, with the Rev. David Jones officiating. The public may view Mr. Burgess at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home on Friday from 2 until 6 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. until noon.
Mr. Burgess was born Sept. 10, 1929, in Wilkes County to Roby Harrison and Linnie Jane Absher Burgess. He retired from Key City Furniture after more than 30 years of service. Jack was a member and deacon of Baptist Home Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Ora Lee McGinnis, Nora Dale Faw, Grace Prevette and Geneva Faw; a brother, Arthur Burgess; and a son-in-law, Jay Shew.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Virginia Dare Hutchinson Burgess; a daughter, Venetia Shew of North Wilkesboro; a son, David Burgess of North Wilkesboro; two grandchildren, Adam Shew and wife, Stephanie, and Amanda Chambers and husband, Kenneth; and five great-grandchildren, McKinley, Sadie, Jackson, Jase and Jaylee.
