Numa T. Handy, 90, went to meet our Lord on Jan. 5, 2021. He was born Aug. 22, 1930, in Wilkes County, the son of Ira Handy and Maude (Adams) Handy.
Numa served in the United States Army during the Korean War. After his service in the Army, Numa returned to a lifetime career in the mirror manufacturing industry. For over six decades Numa was responsible for the construction of over six mirror manufacturing facilities. In 1978, Numa met the love of his life, Mary (Hastedt) Handy. They celebrated 29 years of marriage in November.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven sisters and two brothers. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mary Handy; daughters Vicki Domaschk (Greg) and Sheila Weissman (Tim); step-sons Michael Gross Sr. and Matt Gross (Misty); 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Numa lay in state of rest between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021, at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville, Texas. His wife, Mary Handy, will receive friends and family between 1 and 3 p.m. that day. He will be laid to rest with honors at Houston National Cemetery in Houston, Texas, at 11:30 a.m., Monday, Jan. 11, 2021. Those wishing to attend may line up in Lane 1 at 11:15 a.m. and all in attendance, per cemetery guidelines, must maintain social distancing and wear a mask.
