Michael Douglas Holbrook

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Douglas Holbrook of Traphill, who passed away peacefully on Friday, May 19, 2023, at the age of 72.

Graveside services to be held at Round Hill Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 23, 2023, with Rev. Steve Absher and Mr. Steve Holbrook officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, May 22, 2023, at Reins Sturdivant Funeral Home.

Michael was born on Aug. 26, 1950. He grew up in Traphill with his parents, Romey and Onie Holbrook, who preceded him in death. He attended North Wilkes High School and then Wilkes Community, where obtained a degree in welding. He went on to pursue a career with Carolina Mirror, which later merged with Gardner Glass Products, where he worked for over 52 years making significant contributions to their success.

In 1971, Michael married his high school sweetheart, Virginia “Judy.” Mike and Judy went on to have one son, Marty Holbrook of Winston-Salem.

Michael was predeceased by five brothers, Fred Holbrook of Clemmons. Bryce Holbrook of Stanfield, Bryan Holbrook of Greensboro, Ronald Holbrook of Granite Falls and Roger Holbrook of Kernersville; and three sisters, Pauline Billings of Traphill, Vera Starnes of Matthews and Fredia Patterson of East Bend.

Michael is survived by his wife, Virginia “Judy” Holbrook of Traphill; son, Marty Douglas Holbrook of Winston-Salem; and brother, Larry Steven Holbrook of Traphill. Michael was an exceptional husband, father, family member and friend to the community. He was known for his kind heart, gentle spirit and unwavering devotion to those around him.

In his free time, Michael enjoyed golfing, fishing, gardening and helping the community by welding or fixing things when possible. He was an avid Carolina basketball fan and loved picking with the Duke fans, but he loved nothing more than spending time with neighbors, friends, family and dog Mollie. Mike leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 1564, North Wilkesboro, N.C., 28659.
