Leonard Sylvester Harris, 68, transitioned to his heavenly home on Dec. 26, 2020, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was the loving, devoted husband of Linda Boles Harris. They shared 41 years of marriage.
Born in Wilkes County, he was the son of the late James Wesley and Martenia Rousseau Harris Haley. His elementary education was at Lincoln Heights School and he graduated from Wilkes Central High School. He attended NC A& T University. Leonard was a long-distance truck driver for 18 years and was also a Driver Trainer. He retired from CenturyLink after 26 years of service. After retirement, he enjoyed being a transport specialist for Specialty Cars. It was a job in which he could do what he enjoyed — driving, talking, and meeting people.
Leonard was a member of Rickards Chapel AME Zion Church, where he served in the following capacities: Finance Committee, Steward Board, Usher Board, member of Mass Choir and Men’s Ensemble. In 2018, he received the Unsung Hero Award from the church. Leonard had a heart for connecting with others. He loved his family and always put them first. If you knew him, you know his love for NASCAR racing, the Dallas Cowboys and the Carolina Tar Heels. Leonard never met a stranger. We will always remember his laughter and joyful spirit.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Boles Harris; daughter, Lisa Michelle Boles of Winston Salem; son, Leonard Dwan Harris of North Wilkesboro; brothers, James (Brenda) and Milton (Marnita) of North Wilkesboro; sister, Lucy Elaine Harris Cobb of Greensboro; brothers-in-law; John Wayne Boles (Loraine) of Boonville and Benny Eugene Boles (Bernice) of North Wilkesboro, grandchildren; Angelo Gonzalez, Jasmyne Harris-Horton, Malleah Harris-Horton, Tamia Harris-Horton, Traevon Harris-Horton and Elijah Cooley; great-grandchild, Zaidyn Gonzalez; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his mother, father and brother, Rufus.
“Rip,” “Fella,” “Leonard,” “Tennis Shoe,” “Lawyer Leonard”… his life was a blessing, his memory is a treasure, he was loved beyond words and he will be missed beyond measure.
