Kenneth Lee Compton, 94, of North Wilkesboro passed away Friday, Sept. 4, 2020, at his home.
Graveside services with a flag presentation by the U.S. Navy will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2020, at Mountlawn Memorial Park, with Dr. Bert Young officiating.
Mr. Compton was born Feb. 18, 1926, in Haywood County to John Pinkney and Della Palmer Compton. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a member of First Baptist Church of North Wilkesboro. Mr. Compton worked at IBM and later for Lowe’s Home Improvement. Ken was a skilled woodworker, making furniture and other projects for family and friends. He was also a hand carver, for which he won several awards.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Bobby Compton.
He is survived by his wife, Harriette Littlejohn Compton of the home; a daughter, Kathryn Lynn Compton of North Wilkesboro; a son, Kenneth Lee Compton Jr. and wife, Joanne, of Matthews; a grandson, John Ward Compton and wife, Taylor, of Charlotte; a brother, Hugh Compton and wife, Maxine, of Arden; and two nieces, Lori Sullivan and Lisa Littlejohn, both of Birmingham, Ala.
