Joshua Dillon “Josh” Absher, 31, of McGrady, passed away Sunday, June 27, 2021, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Josh was born Nov. 17, 1989, in Wilkes County to Robert Jeffrey and Katherine Renee Sheets Absher. He was a 2009 graduate of North Wilkes High School. Josh loved his family, friends, and enjoyed family gatherings. He was an avid outdoor man, hunter, fisherman and logger. He was employed as a logger with Absher Logging. Josh was an avid gun toter, loved his guns and could figure out how to do anything involving guns. He was an amazing athlete in high school, a track star, talented football player. Josh loved Norse mythology and may he rest in Valhalla or high on a mountain. He was an amazing son, brother, cousin, nephew and friend.
He is survived by his parents, Jeff and Kathy Sheets Absher of McGrady; sister, Hannah Absher Combs and spouse, David Mark Combs II, of McGrady; paternal grandmother, Jenny Absher of McGrady; maternal grandfather, Jim Sheets of McGrady; cousins, Connor Reid Blackburn, Logan Absher and spouse, Rachel, of Millers Creek, Luke Absher of Ronda; uncle, Alan Absher of Wytheville, Va.; aunts, Rebecca Sheets Blackburn of Mulberry, Donna Absher of Ronda.
Funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, July 3, 2021, at Cane Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Clayton Handy and Rev. Ronnie McManus officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Josh will lie in state at Cane Creek Baptist Church from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday prior to the service. The family has requested no flowers.
