John Lewis Wyatt, 87, of North Wilkesboro, died Sunday, March 28, 2021. He was born Oct. 16, 1933, in Wilkes County to the late John Lewis Wyatt, Sr. and the late Nancy Call Wyatt. John joined the U.S. Air Force upon graduation from Mountain View High School in 1951. He served proudly for 21 years, including in Korea and Vietnam. After retiring from the Air Force in 1972 as a Chief Master Sargent, he moved his family back to Wilkes County and began his second career with Blue Ridge Shoe Company, Melville Footwear in Wilkesboro. He retired permanently when the shoe plant closed.
John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was a constant source of motivation and support to those who knew him well. He enjoyed his grandchildren, gardening, western movies, and especially his yearly hunting trip to Colorado with his best friend, Ken Moore.
John is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mildred (Micki) Johnston Wyatt; two daughters, LaVonda Wyatt-Everhart (Mark) of North Wilkesboro and Johnell Ashe (Steve) of Richmond, Va.; four grandchildren, Amanda Everhart, Stephen Everhart, Wyatt Ashe, and Mitchell Ashe; brother, Buford Wyatt of North Wilkesboro; sister, Shelba Walker (Doc) of Galax, Va.; sister-in-law, Gertrude Wyatt, and special niece, Glenda Roten, both of North Wilkesboro. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Emma Wilcox.
