James Vernon 'J.V.' 'Pops' Miller

James Vernon “J.V.” “Pops” Miller, 79, of North Wilkesboro, passed away Sunday, April 24, 2022 at his home. Mr. Miller was born May 26, 1942, in Wilkes County to Claude and Lora Hayes Miller. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for four years and came out as a corporal. He then went into the U.S. Postal Service for 20 years and after that went to Lowe’s Distribution Warehouse and after 17 years retired. During this time, he was a member of the North Wilkesboro Fire Department and worked part-time for Sears and Bare Applicance Service. J.V. spent more than 20 years acting as Santa Claus for the Town of North Wilkesboro. He was always willing to help anyone at any time. He loved his family, especially his granddaughters and great granddaughters. Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 42 years, Hazel Alene Hersey Miller; sisters, Inez Harris, Louise Cornelius and Pat Prevette; brothers, R.C. Miller and Larry Miller.

Surviving are his daughter, Lena Kay Miller of the home; son, James V. Miller Jr. and spouse, Angela, of Richfield, N.C.; two granddaughters, Nicole Miller, Caitlin Voyles and spouse, Sgt. Christian Voyles, U.S. Marine Corps; great-granddaughters, Lilliana and Sadie Voyles; and sister, Bobbie Witherspoon of North Wilkesboro.

Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, April 29, 2022, at Mountain Valley Baptist Church with Pastor Doug Prevette and Pastor Scott Church officiating. Burial with military honors by Williams/Canter (Brushy Mtn.) Marine Corps League Detachment 1187 will follow in Mountlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Miller Funeral Service from 6-8 p.m. Thursday. The family requested no flowers or food.
