Helen Ruth Owings Goforth, 87, of Purlear, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2021, at her home. Mrs. Goforth was born Sept. 17, 1934, in Wilkes County to Glenn Burgess and Bonnie Frances Holman Owings. She was a member of Lewis Fork Baptist Church and loved the Lord. She also loved her children and grandchildren. Helen enjoyed traveling and the mountains. Mrs. Goforth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Allie Buck Goforth; and sister, Joan Owings Reams.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Debra Laws and spouse, Bobby, of Purlear; son, Kim Goforth, and spouse, Pat, of Purlear; siblings, Frances Owings Goforth and spouse, Milton, of Ferguson, Glenn Owings Jr. and spouse, Linda, of State Road, Eugene Owings and spouse, Sue, Betty Owings Owens, Opal Owings Adams and spouse, Larry, all of North Wilkesboro; grandchildren, Misty Bumgarner and spouse, Thomas, of Purlear, Melinda Woodruff and spouse, Anthony, of Hays, Dustin Goforth of Purlear; great-grandchildren, Tyler Dancy and Brayden Dancy, both of Purlear, Austin Woodruff and spouse, Shandin, Ashley Woodruff, all of Hays; and great-great-grandchild, Oliver Woodruff of Hays.
Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, 2021, at Lewis Fork Baptist Church with Pastor Dwayne Andrews, Rev. Larry Adams, Rev. Matt Jones and Rev. Sherrill Wellborn officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Lewis Fork Baptist Church from 1-2 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service.
