George Ervin McNeil, 86, of Millers Creek passed away Thursday, June 27, 2019, at Wake Forest Baptist Health-Wilkes Medical Center. He was born , in Wilkes County to Joseph Clyde and Ruby Huffman McNeil.
George was a U.S. Army veteran during the Korean War. He was a member and deacon at Cricket Baptist Church. George was a mechanic and loved restoring antique cars and making new friends.
Mr. McNeil was preceded in death by his parents and several brothers and sisters.
Surviving are his wife, Ella Jean Glass McNeil; a daughter, Debra Pendry and spouse, Reggie, of North Wilkesboro; his sons, Rodney McNeil and spouse, Tina, and William McNeil, all of Millers Creek; his grandchildren, Travis McNeil, Kandis Fogleman and spouse, Cy, and Will McNeil; two brothers, Bob McNeil and Fred McNeil; two sisters, Shirley Myers and Martha Bauguess; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Monday, July 1, 2019, at Cricket Baptist Church, with Pastor Randall Millsaps, the Rev. Robert Webb, Pastor Jamie McGuire and the Rev. Sherrill Wellborn officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by the honor guard from Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1142, followed in Mountlawn Memorial Park. The family received friends at Cricket Baptist Church from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Monday, prior to the service.
