Donna Canter Dilley died Sept. 12, 2020, surrounded by her family, in Aurora, Colo.
Donna was born May 1, 1961, in Wilkesboro to Edith and Don Canter. She graduated from West Wilkes High School, where she was a cheerleader, in 1979. She met John Dilley, the love of her life, at a wedding in Boone and they were married on May 22, 1985. She graduated from Lynchburg College in 1988.
A celebration of life is at 3 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21, at Big R Orchards at 355 Bethany Church Road, Moravian Falls. There will be a celebration of Donna’s life later in Virginia. A memorial service was held Sept. 15 in Fort Collins, Colo.
Donna and John lived in Salem, Va., for 30 years and raised two daughters. She directed the Roanoke chapter of the National League of Junior Cotillions for 20 years. Donna adored her hundreds of students and remembered each by name.
In 2013, they moved to Colorado and fell in love with the land, mountains, big sky and native fauna. Donna was a devout Christian and loved to worship with Hope Community Fellowship. She was a fearless adventurer, warm caregiver, irrepressible source of joy and fun and an instant friend to everyone she met.
Donna was preceded in death by her mother, Edith Canter, in 2006.
In addition to her husband and father, Donna is survived by her daughters, Natalie Dilley-Conley and husband, Geoff, and Ursula Dilley; grandchildren, Akela, Madison and Dylan Conley; sister, Kay Barnett and husband, Mike; brothers, Brent Holloway and wife, Anita, and Bobby Holloway and wife, Renaugh; sister (niece), Angie Brehm and husband, Andy; dearly beloved in-laws, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, cousins and many precious friends; and her devoted 14-year-old poodle, Ruby.
