David Lee Whittington, 89, of Wilkesboro, died Friday, March 19, 2021, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, March 22, 2021, at Mountlawn Memorial Park with Rev. Ronnie McMillan officiating.
Mr. Whittington was born May 24, 1931, in Wilkes County to Avery Turner Whittington and Velna Myers Whittington. He was co-owner of Better Homes Furniture and was involved in business over 70 years.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe Donal Whittington and Ernest (Edsel) Whittington, and a step-great grandchild, Khloee Faith Queen.
He survived by his wife of 70 years, Jo Anne Lenderman Whittington; three daughters, Debra Phillips of North Wilkesboro, Lu Anne Hudson of Winston-Salem and Cindy Smithey and husband, Brian, of Moravian Falls; one brother, Hubert Whittington of Jonesville; three grandchildren, Danny Phillips and wife, Darla, Bobby Brooks and Elmon May; two step-grandchildren, Robert Smithey and wife, Tiffany, and Kendra Queen and husband, Roger; four great-grandchildren, David Phillips, Brooke Phillips, Paige Phillips, and Clementine May; eight step-great-grandchildren, Landon Queen, Karlee Queen, Aiyden Queen, Kyley Mathis and Laina Smithey, McKalya Lawson, Thomas Tevepaugh and Chance Tevepaugh; one great-great-grandchild, Daniel Lee Phillips; and multiple nephews and nieces.
