Danny Miller, 80, of Millers Creek, passed away Saturday, Nov. 19, 2022, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2022, at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Millers Creek with Pastor Keith Lyon and Pastor Jeff Rizoti officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. prior to the service.
Mr. Miller was born July 22, 1942, in Wilkes County to Grant and Johnsie Sheets Miller. Danny married the love of his life, Mary Kay, in 1964 for a marriage of 58 years. He was a member of Glendale Springs Baptist Church in Ashe County and later, Oak Grove Baptist Church in Millers Creek. Danny served his country proudly in the United States Army. He was a US Army Veteran having served in Korea during Vietnam war time. He was recognized as an “Expert Rifleman” and was promoted to the rank of E-6 Sergeant. After his years in the military, he pursued a college degree in drafting. He later became an accomplished building contractor, owning and operating Danny Miller Construction Company. He was the president of the Wilkes County Home Builders Association for two years.
Danny was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a friend to many. His greatest joy in life came from spending time with his family. He enjoyed family time which always included good meals, lots of laughter, many hugs and “I love you’s.” Friends and family describe him as honorable, caring, trustworthy, hard-working, clean and fun-loving family man. His favorite holiday was Christmas, which he always made special through the years by playing our favorite Christmas records and making sure that his daughters got to spy on Santa. His favorite vacation spot was Pigeon Forge, with his family, going to the shows, eating at delicious restaurants and of course, getting a few slabs of fudge.
He never wanted to miss a family meal of gravy and biscuits which he helped cook or enjoying cookouts with extended family, grilling BBQ chicken. He treasured his relationship with Jesus Christ from an early age and always looked forward to the day he would meet his Lord and Savior in person. We rest assured that today he is walking with Jesus in the beauty of Heaven’s glory.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Karen Nash and Audrey Sheets.
Mr. Miller is survived by his wife, Mary Kay Bare Miller of the home; two daughters, Danna Rizoti and husband, Jeff, of Millers Creek, and Heather Baker and husband, Dean, of Union Grove; one grandson, Seth Rizoti of Charlotte; two sisters, Kay Sheets and husband, Eugene, of Millers Creek, and Janice Estes and husband, Allen, of Statesville; one brother, Ronnie Miller and wife, Donna, of Millers Creek; and several nieces and nephews.
