Clara Jean Adams Wagoner, 87, of McGrady peacefully passed from this life on Thursday, Nov. 28, 2019, at her daughter’s home in Wilkesboro. Mrs. Wagoner was born Oct. 31, 1932, in Wilkes County to James Presley “J.P.” and Dora E. Sebastian Adams.
She was a homemaker and worked many years as a cafeteria cook and cashier for the Baltimore County Board of Education in Maryland. Her love of God and her family were the most important parts of her life, obvious in her devotion as a wife, mother, grandmother and sister. Her passion was music, playing both the piano and organ. She served as the church pianist and organist at several local churches, and most recently at Grace Point Baptist of Baltimore, Md., and alternate pianist at Dehart Baptist Church in McGrady.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2019, at Dehart Baptist Church, with the Rev. Greg Hall and the Rev. Travis Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2019, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Miller Funeral Service, 180 Sparta Road, North Wilkesboro.
Mrs. Wagoner is survived by her husband of 67 years, Freeman H. Wagoner Sr. of McGrady; one son, Freeman Wagoner Jr. of Middle River, Md.; three daughters, Rebecca Stark and husband, Robert, of Wilkesboro; Rita Wagoner-West and husband, Barry, of Hickory and Frances Wagoner of Vandalia, Ohio; one brother, James A. “Arvil” Adams and wife, Gloria, of Acworth, Ga.; one sister, Lucy Griggs of Salisbury; 18 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Clyde E. Adams and William “Beechel” Adams, and her sisters, Rena Coffey, Reba Dillard and Grace Hall.
