Charles Boyd Adams, 65, of Wilkesboro went to his eternal home in heaven on Thursday, Aug. 26, 2021, at Wilkes Regional Medical Center. Charles was born in Washington, D.C., and grew up in Beltsville, Md. At High Point Senior High School in Beltsville. Charles was a starter on the Soccer Team, and first chair Tuba player. High Point Senior High was recognized as one of the nation’s most reknowned Symphonic and Concert Bands at the time. Charles was an accomplished Boy Scout attaining the honorable Life Scout rank. He was a National Honors Society member. After high school, Charles relocated to Wilkes County with his mother and father, following his father’s retirement from the U.S. National Security Agency. He received an Associate degree in Arts at Wilkes Community College and completed several graduate classes at UNC-G with a focus in Herpetology, and “A” average.

In his early career, he worked as EMT, CPR Instructor for the American Red Cross, Photography Instructor for Community Classes in Boone, N.C. and Teacher’s Assistant at Union Elementary School. In the late 1970s, Charles was the first soccer coach in Wilkes County; he coached students at Wilkes Central H.S, when soccer was new to the region. Over the course of the next 30 years, Charles made a career in water and sewer operations. His positions included: Assistant Director of Public Works for City of Dunn; Supervising Manager of Water Operations for the City of New Bern; Wastewater Collection System O&M Supervisor for the City of Wilmington and Cape Fear Public Utility Authority; Regional Water Systems Distribution Operator at Key Largo Florida, Engineer Technician at Davis, Martin, Powell of High Point, NC; and Rivers and Associates of Raleigh as survey crew member. In recent years, he worked as a consultant for GLG Consulting. Throughout his career, he held numerous certificates, including Water Pollution Control System Operations, N.C. Water Treatment Facility Operator, A- B- and C Well, NC Water Pollution Control Collection System Operator, et. al.

Charles was an avid outdoorsman, fisherman, and animal lover. He was a lifelong student of animal biology, and a naturalist. He enjoyed instant rapport with dogs, cats and other animals.

Charles was a concerned employer and supported his employees inside and outside of work. He had a strong work ethic and expected hard work and excellence from employees but was fair minded in all respects.

Previously, he served in the church as an Adult Sunday School Teacher, and a Youth Leader. He was a man of faith, and his relationship with God and the Lord Jesus Christ was part of his core beliefs. He loved his wife, sons and family. Charles had many interests and was keen to learn about and encourage his sons in whatever they were passionate about. Never known to turn a stranger in need away, he treated everyone with kindness and respect.

Charles was preceded in death by his mother, Irene Boyd Owens Adams and his father, Chesley McKay Adams. He is survived by his wife, Teresa Gwenn Johnston Adams of Wilkesboro; son, Charles Christian Adams of Wilkesboro; son, Joshua E.M. Adams, 2nd Lieutenant United States Army of Columbus, Ga.; eldest brother and wife, John Chesley Adams, Ret. Brig. General, United States Army and Laura Adams of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; cousins, nieces and nephews and loving in-laws.

The family would like to express gratitude to Wilkes Regional Medical Center Nurses and staff of the Telemetry Unit and ER, who went the extra mile, and to Dr. Mira Boone and Dr. Siddikki.

Graveside Celebration of Life Service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, 2021, at Mountain Park Cemetery, 608 S. Bridge Street, Wilkesboro. Rev. Shannon Critcher of Millers Creek Baptist Church will officiate. Flowers accepted and memorials can be made to N.C. Wildlife Resources in Raleigh or Samaritan’s Purse of North Wilkesboro. Arrangements are by Miller Funeral Service.
