Buddy Lee Rhoades, 78, of North Wilkesboro passed away Monday, June 15, 2020, at his home. Mr. Rhoades was born March 8, 1942, in Wilkes County to Royal Calvin and Lessie Mae Porter Rhoades.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Rhoades was the owner and operator of Buddy’ s Grocery for 30 years. He was a former member and deacon at Rock Creek Baptist Church. Formerly, he was a North Wilkesboro police officer, where he reached the rank of sergeant. He was a former detective with the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office. He was a current member and deacon at Northside Baptist Church. He enjoyed watching car racing and vacationing with his grandchildren, whom he loved very much.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, funeral services will be private. However, friends and family may pay their respects at Miller Funeral Service on Wednesday, June 17, 2020, from 6 to 8 p.m. Mr. Rhoades’ viewing will be held at this time.
Mr. Rhoades is survived by his wife, Iva Dean Hendrix Rhoades; one son, Mark Rhoades (Melissa Fogarty) of Haddonfield, N.J.; one daughter, Karen Shupe and husband, David, of North Wilkesboro; four grandchildren, Maggie Shupe and Sophie Shupe of North Wilkesboro and Margo Rhoades and Tessa Rhoades of Haddonfield, N.J.; three sisters, Shirley Huffman of Ferguson, Mary Jean Warren of North Wilkesboro and Mary Lou Wiles and husband, Dexter, of Traphill; and one brother, Calvin Rhoades and wife, Pam, of North Wilkesboro.
