Bertha Lou Wood Anderson, 85, of Hays, passed away, Thursday, Sept. 2, 2021, at the home of her daughter. Mrs. Anderson was born Dec. 2, 1935, in Wilkes County to Zoye and Elsie Crabb Wood. She loved her children and grandchildren deeply. She was a devoted Christian and member at Little Mountain Baptist Church. Bertha enjoyed kids and working with children with disabilities. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles. Mrs. Anderson was retired from Wilkesboro Elementary School. Anyone that knew her loved her. Most of all she was the #1 wife and love to her husband, Robert. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Larry Lee Anderson; sister, Mae Bumgarner; and brother, Clayton Wood.
Bertha is survived by her husband of 66 years, Robert Anderson Jr., of Hays; daughters, Pat Goforth and spouse, Kim, of Purlear, Angie Anderson and spouse, Dean, of Jonesville, Cindy Anderson of North Wilkesboro; brother, Melvin Wood and spouse, Gaynell, of Roaring River; sisters, Betty Jo Billings of Elkin, Judy Bauguess and spouse, Allen, of Dobson, Kathy Wood and Frances Church both of North Wilkesboro; grandsons, Dustin Goforth of Purlear and Allen Anderson of Jonesville; great-granddaughter, Abbie Freeman.
Funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 5, 2021, at Little Mountain Baptist Church with Rev. Brian Mathis and Rev. Steven Shumate officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Little Mountain Baptist Church from 2-3 pm. on Sunday, prior to the service.
