Bertha “Fern” Duncan, 81, of Moravian Falls, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2020. She was born March 7, 1939, in Wilkes County to Rufus Talmadge and Bertha Rhoades Fletcher.
Fern was a member of Cub Creek Baptist Church, where she was very active. Mrs. Duncan loved her church. She was a kind and loving person who enjoyed helping and doing things for others. She also was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Fern was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Sharon Kay Duncan; brothers, Guy Fletcher, Bruce Fletcher, John Henry Fletcher; sisters, Hazel Burgess, Sylvia Smithey and Lula Mae Klutz.
Mrs. Duncan is survived by her husband, Norval “Bob” Duncan; daughters, Karen Walker and spouse, Curtis, of Moravian Falls, Barbara Lee and spouse, Tom, of Salisbury, Md.; son, Robert Duncan and spouse, Lisa, of Wilkesboro; brothers, Gene Fletcher of North Wilkesboro and Ralph Fletcher of Moravian Falls; grandchildren, Clay Walker and spouse, Jacquelyn, Kelly Griffin and spouse, Nathaniel, all of Moravian Falls, Kyler Duncan and Ashley Duncan both of Wilkesboro; and great-grandchildren, Carrigan Walker, McKinley Walker and Gabe Griffin, all of Moravian Falls.
Funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, 2020, at Cub Creek Baptist Church with Mr. Fred Eldreth officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Cub Creek Baptist Church from 2-3 p.m. Sunday prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Wilkes South Gideons, P.O.
